This site is dedicated to:
My Grandfather, Sgt. George Richard Hartley 1916-1986.

Cpl. G.R. Hartley England 1941
The Second World War began on Sept. 1, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland.  Britain and France declared war on Germany on Sept. 3, 1939.  In Canada, a special session of Parliament was called on Sept. 7, 1939.  Canada remained neutral until Sept. 10, when Parliament approved the Prime Minister's request to go to war.  King George VI declared war on Germany in the name of Canada the same day.

My Granddad volunteered for war service in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 5, 1939 to the 2nd Corps Ammo Park RCASC CASF.  On December 12, 1939 he was transferred to the Saskatoon Light Infantry where he remained with the regiment in its entirety until his return to Canada and demobilization on August 1, 1945.

With ith help from the South East Military Museum here in Estevan, I  had a memorial banner made and placed in Remembrance of my Grandad.  Veteran's banners are being hung all over the city and in other communities in South East Saskatchewan.  What a great way to remember and honour them.
